<This is EXACTLY how I teach the hand-expression technique. I learned
it as a patient at St. E's in Dayton Ohio from Jean's booklet. Really
works.>

While I appreciate the compliment, I need to give credit where credit
is due. The hospital booklet Jane refers to was "Comfortable
Initiation of Breastfeeding" written 3 decades or so ago by Nancy T.
Goodman RN when she was the maternity supervisor at St. Elizabeth
Hospital (now closed). She went on with her education, and is on the
faculty of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, College of Nursing and
Health Sciences, (listed on the faculty as of 2009 per googling her).

When she first moved to Dayton, she began on the OB unit when I was a
staff nurse and later Maternity Inservice Clinician there, and became
a great supporter of my ideas. We were colleagues in the Dayton
Childbirth Education Association (now defunct). and I owe a lot to her
empowerment, and the continued evolution of many of my ideas. It would
be wonderful if we were to meet again in Texas when ILCA has its 25th
anniversary convention in San Antonio in July.

Networking and support, as on Lactnet and through ILCA and so many
other ways, are so vitally important in the continuing evolution of
the Lactation Consultant profession and the entire field of lactation
knowledge and empowerment around the world.
