Maybe she could try lubricating the flange with a little olive oil.   
When expressing the ointments tend to be very sticky and although they  
feel smooth to begin with, actually make things harder fairly  
quickly.  Olive oil remains slippery the whole time and is edible, so  
a little bit in the milk won't be an issue, especially as bub is 6  
months old.  I would suggest best quality, so no additives, maybe  
organic if she can get it, but definitely cold pressed and extra virgin
