Hi Sue
In Melbourne Wendy Nicholson who was with the Royal Women's Hospital here
made a wonderful video on Expressing and Cup Feeding. I also have some very
straightforward instructions which I give to my mothers on "how-to".
I feel some babies just don't seem to know quite what to do at the breast
and need a bit of training and time before they suck correctly at the
breast. I feel that once a baby reaches 6 weeks he/she knows the differance
between breast and bottle and there is no problem, however many mothers find
this messy and usually prefer to use a supply line attached to the finger to
feed. Some of us feel that when the baby reaches the 4 kilo mark they also
"get the plot" and everything falls into place with sucking etc correctly.
In the meantime I would be very interested in any research that supports
"nipple confusion".
Regards Jackie
