Medela brands and resells other company's scales, so the markup is high.
Tanita makes the BabyWeigh, I don't know about the cheaper one. Tanita
is no longer making or repairing the BLB-12, which was their model that
was almost identical to the BabyWeigh but sold for half the price. It
has been replaced with the BD-815U, which has a higher capacity,
computer charting features, carry handles on the base, and a lower
profile. And sells for significantly less than the BabyWeigh.
If you are interested in a non test weighing scale just to track a
baby's weight over time, Hygeia makes a scale for $175. And Hygeia is a
CODE compliant company.
