Most children in orphanages are not orphans. It is worth considering that
after the earthquake 2 years ago in China that there were 26 children for
whom family or community members could not be found to care for them. I hope
that there are no more children placed in any of the orphanages in Haiti as
a result of the earthquake but fear that the same type of do-gooding that
results in people sending formula to emergencies will result in more
orphanages and more children suffering from institutionalisation.
