As far as I know my certificate and my card mention certification not till the exam or sending in of CERPS, but up till 5 years after receiving the certification. On my 2002 certificate it says ''for a further perid of 5 years to 31 october 2007'' and om my IBCLC card received that october of 2007 it says ''valid thru 2012''. I can only conclude that I am entitled to carry the initials IBCLC and act as a certified IBCLC untill receiving the next certificate or card, meaning by the end of oktober 2012. No way it can be read as not being certified between july and end of october. CERPS are to be send in or exams have to be taken timely in order to be ready for recertification by that date of october 31th.
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC till october 2012, in southern Netherlands.

My... I agree with Chayn on this one.
This is really just a matter of red tape; it has no credibility whatsoever.
That would mean that all of us who have to recertify could not work between taking the exam and receiving the results! What a nonsense!
Can't we do something about that through here, gathering signatures and stating the 'unreasonability' of this...?
All consultations between July and October of recertification candidates would be unethical following this reasoning.
We would have to make sure that nowhere our names would be mentioned with the credentials behind it.
We could not give trainings and presentations, because we would have become 'incapable' of practicing as an expert.
If not, then we have unequal treatment of persons in the same situation, a treatment willingly and clearly harming Amy's best interests (and the clients she could serve were she to proceed normally).
Where to file a complaint about this...? Who gets to supervise IBLCE-decisions...?
Are you an ILCA-member, Amy? Could ILCA help you with this?
Bye,
Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, the Netherlands (and really glad she decided to get her credentials a few years ago (after having been a volunteer bf counsellor for many years), when there was already some rumour about requirements changing in the not so far away future...)
