Dear Friends:
Skin to skin is analgesic for newborns. Grey et al wrote about this in
Pediatrics a few years ago. Skin to skin is also analgesic for
mothers; (Kangaroo
Care at Birth for full-term infants Walters et al. MCN December 2007).
In the lovely skin to skin DVD from Healthy Children, one baby is s2s after
a cesarean section, and gets an injection and doesn't even flinch. This
makes a big impression on healthcare professionals!!
warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
