The answer is yes sort of. In my experience it depends on how tightly the tongue is tied. Depends on whether mom can directly feed at all. I have found that if mom can effectively breastfeed directly for most of the feeds then the babe's frenulum does stretch some within the 4-6th week. It helps if you can find out if the mom knows if the tongue tie was passed down by a family member. In my family it came from my father who never had a speech impediment and so I was confident that my son could adapt. With a woman I worked with as an LC she was able to directly feed with some help with positioning and in 6 weeks reported that there was no pain and the tongue didn't look "as short."
