If someone other than hospital staff is a risk management liability issue, then why was I asked to carry the baby up to the next floor when they moved a mother to her fourth room (yes --- four moves) as she was recovering from preecampsia and a surgical delivery? I made it very clear to the mother that she needed permission from the hospital before I would come and I made the fact that I was not hospital clear to the hospital staff their as well as the in hospital lactation consultant when I arrived. I later had to fend off a fifth room change when someone in billing wanted the mother to come down to their office right away and pay (her husband stepped out for a moment) or they would move her again. I don't like to lie, but I finally snapped and told them the mother was asleep even though she was awake and breastfeeding.
