Dear Friends:

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is the one that published the first
big "study" purporting to show the dangers of bed sharing with infants and
recommending cribs to solve the "problem." Now here they are again, scaring
folks about slings.

I realize that we do need to be careful about some babies in some types of
slings and it is important to have the evidence. Wouldn't it be great if a
nurse practitioner or pediatrician advised a new mother about the type of
carrier most appropriate for her particular baby? We do need this evidence,
especially today in the US, where babies of 35-weeks gestational age can be
sent home and their mothers think they are going home with a term baby.

I don't feel safe with the CPSC. Wanna bet that in 10 years, the AAP comes
out with a policy against slings??

warmly,
