I like the way this is currently worded by LLLI.  They refer to starting "around the middle of the first year after birth".  I like that this makes it more casual rather than a strict "rule".  When a specifica ge is given it makes it sound like at 11:59 PM Tuesday when the child is 5 months and 31 days old it's not OK but at 12:01 AM Wednesday, solids should be started since baby is now 6 months old.  Ridiculous? Of course, but some moms seem almost that tied to exact times!
