Hi Erika,

Could this be a submucosal tongue tie...?
The tie is then beneath the tissue of the floor of the mouth.
I have never diagnosed one myself in my own clients so far (still young 
practice ;-)), but have been paying close attention to Cathy's explanations 
and discussions everywhere ánd to her GOLD-lecture.
If that would be the case (you can use your finger, apparently, to do a 
sweep below the tongue and see what you feel), babe needs a surgeon indeed.
Will you let us know how it proceeds...?
