They distributed Nursery Water with added fluoride in their packet of free
information to hospitals, doctors and the public in their Summer 2009,
Volume 61, Issue 1. They refuse to remove these fluoridated water packs from
their distributions, citing Health Canada and the Canadian Pediatric Society
as the ultimate authority on this issue.

Health Canada's official policy is that exclusive breastfeeding is best for
infants. Health Canada does NOT recommend increased fluoride intake for
neonates. Health Canada has not issued NPN or DIN for this product, and has
NO dosing, chronic intake, pharmacology and toxicology data; therefore it
may not be distributed or sold with claims of benefit or safety for infants.
If there is no substantiation for claim of benefit and safety in giving
babies fluoridated water, bottled water specifically made for babies may not
contain added fluoride.

Increased daily fluoride intake by the mother in pregnancy is harmful to
fetal brain and thyroid, and increases risk of preterm birth. Increased
daily fluoride intake in infancy causes permanent damage to developing teeth
which appears after age 6 as dental fluorosis on first permanent teeth and
to bones (which may not be apparent until puberty when jaws will not
accommodate delayed eruption of molars and canines, and growth plates on
ends of bones mature at a different rate than the bones themselves,
increasing risk of bone cancer and joint damage). The Canadian Pediatric
Society also recommends exclusive breastfeeding and no longer recommends
fluoride supplementation for neonates. A small percentage of infants who are
given feeds made with fluoridated water will develop gastric pain, pinpoint
bleeding in the stomach, erosion of intestinal microvilli, colic, anemia,
vomiting and failure to thrive. However, the Canadian Pediatric Society
makes sure pediatricians are not made aware of this connection, as the CPS
secretly thinks Nature got it horribly colossally wrong and is just seething
with impotent rage that the actual science shows this toxic substance is NOT
magic tooth medicine for babies.

CBC Radio's Metro Morning (Toronto) program recently highlighted the
disturbing correlation between hospitals that provide free formula (or in
this case, the fluoridated water to go with it) to new mothers and
breastfeeding failure within six weeks of hospital discharge. Currently,
barely 20% of new mothers who deliver in Toronto area hospitals that provide
free formula gift packs are still breastfeeding after six weeks. Only one
hospital, Toronto East General, has a glowing success rate. It has an
excellent b.f. clinic, follow up contact after discharge, and a firm "No
Free Formula" policy.

Please write this magazine and voice your concern. Mothers should be suing
this outfit for failing to disclose the risks of fluoride given to newborns.
