When my twins came home from the hospital, I had a 4 year old and 3 year
old. They had been preemies, so between hospital trips (I stayed there every
waking hour, sleeping here at night- one was there two weeks, once for a
month) I was frazzled I guess. We needed groceries shortly after they came
home , so I packed up a 4 , 3, and two newborns and headed to the Grocery
Store. Well, one was in a car seat carrier on the cart the other, larger
twin was in a sling. As I was paying..I noticed he was sort of still..or
just SOMETHING set me off. I pulled him out and realized he was gray! (This
is SO hard for me to write- I get sick thinking about it) I said something
about OH my God, my baby..help meeeee.. the cashier looked clueless...and
the woman in front of me... WOW...was a nicu nurse. Seriously??!?! She
pulled his hair and he was good to go. After some tests, we found both
babies were having long periods of Bradichardia ... but not apnea. However
with the brad. there is a higher chance of with any of those things listed
on the page you sent that they will not pick back up and remember to
breathe. So while I'm a HUGE sling advocate i did realize how VERY
important it is to see your baby and really check their positioning! As it
turned out there was an ambulance driving by the front of the store as well.
So all is well, but still a very hard day to think about and taught me one
heck of an important lesson. He's no worse off for it as he is ONE brilliant
kid. A lot of us tend to want to so badly scream slings! yay! that we hate
to have to take notice of sling safety.
