Hi Pat,
The point is that the unsolicited donations just arrive. They are not where 
they are needed, they are not of the type needed and sending the formula are 
not providing the other resources needed (ie water, stove, fuel, pot, 
kettle, medical support  etc etc)- they never do. These donations cause huge 
logistic problems. They do not help the babies who need to be formula fed 
and they are very effective in reducing breastfeeding rates and increasing 
morbidity. UNSOLICITED DONATIONS OF INFANT FORMULA ARE NEVER EVER HELPFUL!
The tragedy is that US organisations and individuals have been promoting 
formula feeding in Haiti prior to this disaster- so many, many more babies 
are going to die than would otherwise be the case. Well meaning but harmful, 
destructive, abominable aid.
I heard Bill Clinton this afternoon exhorting people- DO NOT SEND STUFF- 
SEND $$$ if you want to help.
