Hi Amy!

We did something similar at our facility this past fall. Some videos we used included Kangaroo Mother Care with Nils Bergman (available from www.geddesproduction.com), and Breastfeeding Best Practice: Teaching Latch & Early Management from InJoy Videos. The InJoy DVD was pricey, but one of the segments did discuss skin-to-skin and how it facilitates breastfeeding. InJoy will usually allow you to preview before buying. We discussed using Delivery Self Attachment by Lennart Righard if we had time, because the nurses rarely (if ever) see babies self-attach, but I can't remember if we ever showed it.

Dr. Bergman also maintains a website with tons of background information. You can find it at http://www.kangaroomothercare.com/index.htm. At our facility, we also used information from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment document called "Getting it Right After Delivery: Five Hospital Practices That Support Breastfeeding" (http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/ps/mch/gettingitright.pdf).

Hope this helps. Good luck with your inservice.
Warmly,
Michelle Roth, BA, LCCE, CIMI (and La Leche League Leader and mom of 4)
