There are, of course, a thousand reasons why moms are so sore for so long.
We have been going back to basics, a bit...with positioning being the most
important intervention to fix. Also, salt water soaks can be very soothing
and helpful, we find. 1/4-1/2 tsp salt per quart of water, boiled and
cooled. Soak breast/nipple area in small amount for 10 min or so, and then
pat dry. It's worth a try, and everyone has salt and water.
Getting the latch right is crucial. I hate to harp on it, but that is the
thing in my practice that I see most often neglected. A small change can
produce HUGE responses in the mom's comfort level.
