hi all,

we have the same "problem" here in germany.
the afs published a paper together with other institutions like lll,
the german velb section etc:
<http://www.afs-stillen.de/upload/pdf/Stellungnahme_zum_Thema_Optimaler_Zeitpunkt_Beikosteinfuehrung.pdf>
there are 2 main areas of concern for me: people starting solids on
4month old babys who show no interest in solids, cannot sit upright,
havent lost their tongue-push reflex (in german its called
zungenstreck-reflex...), just arent ready for solids at all... just
because now you're allowed to start at 4 months.
the other thing is, they will wean earlier.
most of the studies i read so far seem to be misunderstood - none of
them talks about a real health advantage for the babys who have to
start early.
and none of them can deny the positive health effects of breastfeeding.
but of course in the public discussion everything is thrown into one
pot and out come articles that claim a start with solids at 6 months
might give your children allergies and breastfeeding for more than 4
months puts your baby at risk of being malnutritioned...
seems like a real big backlash to me.

Because the Medieval Church, with the support of kings, princes and
secular authorities, controlled medical education and practice, the
Inquisition constitutes, among other things, an early instance of the
"professional" repudiating the skills and interfering with the rights
of the "nonprofessional" to minister to the poor. -Thomas Szasz, The
