i sucked my thumb for 10ys or so. i haven't been breastfed. i needed
braces because i lost one of my molars in early childhood and the
others slipped in the gap. i did not need braces for my front teeth.
my daughter had a pacifier from day one on and i took ot away when she
was maybe 2,5ys old. she never sucked her thumb, was breastfed only in
the first 4 months.
my son is breastfed for 21months now, never had a "pacifier", does not
suck his thumb. i'd rather have him sucking his thumb than some
plastic stuff - although parents claim that it's easier to wean kids
from pacifiers than from the thumb i always see kids up to 5ys with
these things in their face and not even taking them out when they're
talking to you or doing something like climbing on a table or tree or
something. if the thumbsucking kids aren't couch potatoes they most
likely need their hands free to play and cannot afford to have one of
them occupied with thumbsucking most of the day.
