Hi All,
We've had this discussion about pink milk on the Academy of
Breastfeeding Medicine listserv. Several physicians have reported pink
milk caused by a serratia marcescens infection in the mother's
breast(s). The pigment from this bacteria is known to cause red/pink
staining.
I recommend having the milk cultured, with proper culture techniques to
isolate serratia.
Generally, this should be treated with antibiotics, based on the
sensitivities from the culture.
