I received a wonderful call this morning that a pediatrician who came in to see the twins that were being fed neosure against mom's will and looked at their charts and mom's milk content and threw the neosure in the garbage! he explained to her that it is really only supposed to be used for very low birthweight babies typically born before 32 weeks! THANK YOU!! It is encouraging and comforting to know there are some out there who have read the research and support the studies.
Babies are coming home today on mom's milk ONLY!
For those who were looking for studies about not needing neosure or formula, here are a list of a few that support breastfeeding and mom's milk only...
1) Nutritional Follow-Up of the breastfeeding Premature Infant After Hospital Discharge by Robert T. Hall, MD: Dr. Hall explains neosure is only to be used as an alternative to human milk for mothers who discontinue or choose not to breastfeed.
2) Feeding Strategies for Premature infants: Beneficial outcomes of feeding Fortified human Milk Versus Preterm Formula by Richard Schanler, Robert Shulman, MD's and Chantal Lau, PhD
3)Maximizing the Benefits of Human Milk Feeding for the Preterm Infant by Susan Landers, MD, FABM
4)Energy Expenditure for Breastfeeding and Bottle Feeding Preterm Infants by: Irit berger, MD, Valentin Weintraub, PhD, Shaul Dollberg, MD, Rozalia Kopolovitz, RN, Dror Mandel, MD
