Dear friends,

The discussion around WHO code is a never ending story, in my area for the moment a very hot item, right next after the H1N1 flu and vaccination-or-not discussions. Both the Dutch IBCLC association and 1 of the 2 volunteer breastfeeding organizations are dealing with board decisions that are in the eyes of part of the members Code violating. In this context I came up with the following questions: Is an IBCLC working within the scope of the WHO code (and therefor within the Code of Ethics and the Scope of Practice) when she works for a company that is a Code violator? Does the kind of job she has matter? Can she receive funding for research for example?
And: can an IBCLC sell (but not market or promote) bottles, teats and/or formula on a as-needed basis within a care plan?
