If I misunderstood the meaning from the article, I would be happy to be corrected. It is a new term to me. I am not sure we need more terms than we have, but as that is the only time I have come across the term, and a definition was given, I thought I would answer the question asked. The idea behind translactation is that the mother already has a milk supply present and is trying to increase it with extra stimulation to the breast, relactation is when mom does not already have a supply in place, and is trying to initiate a supply. We could argue that re means occurring again, and so a mom who is adopting and has never produced milk wouldn't be relactating... one could in truth argue the meanings of the words endlessly and I am in agreement that the words we use in our profession are important to ensure that we are all on the same page and we minimize confusion across different languages and cultures.
