Got this e-mail today from a close friend's daughter - and replied with a
phone call..

But thought I'd share it with you - because I'm doing my best NOT TO LOSE MY
TEMPER!!!! (yes you need to cover your ears when you read this <grin>)

Our 5 month old daughter usually has a dirty diaper every other day or so..
today she has had 6 so far.. the last 3 have had a small amount of blood in
them. I took her to the doctor this afternoon but it was not her usual
doctor and I am a little unsure about what he told me to do for her. He
said she has redness in her throat and combined with the multiple bm's he
thinks that she has a virus (he did not elaborate about what kind of virus)
and that the blood is the result of a torn fissure caused by forceful bowel
movements. That makes sense to me. He told me to give her watered down
breast milk, a mixture of half and half and also to start her on a half and
half mix of grape juice. We have not ever given her anything but breastmilk
so I am not sure about giving her the juice and am concerned that she would
be missing out on nutrition if I water down her breastmilk. We were told
last week at her well baby check up that we can start her on solids but had
planned to wait another couple of weeks before introducing anything other
than breastmilk. I wanted to see what you think about all of this. When
the doctor said virus it really concerned me. I have not be able to get the
H1N1 vaccine yet due to a shortage in our area but I am hoping to get it
this weekend so she has no antibodies against it and has been around
children and of course her dad and I work around kids all day so who knows
we might bring home. I just don't want to take any chances and I trust your
opinion. Thanks in advance!

Watered down breast milk (50/50) and watered down grape juice!!!

AARRGGHH!
