Marianne -- if you have a Q about any entity's advertising policy, the
best source to ask is the entity itself -- not Lactnet.

But, as luck would have it, I am ILCA's Secy and I can do a convenient
end-run (talk about a USA-based phrase: that comes from American football)
and enlighten you.

You have read the ILCA Advertising Policy correctly: when a company is
designated a WHO Code-violator, they become ineligible to have a booth at
the conferences we organize. Our by-laws mandate that -- a more
rigourous application of the WHO Code than even the WHO Code requires (as to
conference exhibitors).

Medela (the particular Code violator you mention) did not have a booth at
the 2009 ILCA Conference in Orlando. To be absolutely accurate,
Medela never sought to have a booth in 2009. I suspect that is
because ILCA's position was well-known and widely-publicized in lactation
circles. Unless the marketing practices of that company change, they would
not be eligible to exhibit in 2010, for the same reason.

The VELB Conference is run by VELB. Altho ILCA partnered with VELB in 2008,
and will do so again in 2010, to "co-host" the conference, VELB retains the
decision-making powers on everything from conference speakers to its exhibit
hall.
