Of course ff mothers need to be instructed in making up formula
bottles correctly.
But under the WHO code, manufacturers of products covered by the code
can only produce educational and informational material with certain
conditions, which include information on the superiority of
breastfeeding, the difficulty of reversing the decision to formula
feed and so on, has limited branding etc. It would be possible, I
think, for the Formula Council to do this, and follow all the rules
(but they might be unhappy about it). Reading the WHO code and its
appendices gives pretty good guidance as to the minimal
ethically-permissable standards any joint venture between
manufaturers and an HCP orgnisation should follow.
An additional concern is that group instruction in making up of
formula bottle is proscribed under WHO/UNICEF Baby friendly, so
ethically, this film could only be used one-to-one with mothers and
their HCPs, not as part of a class or group session.
