The whole issue didn't manage to get any interest in the Dutch media. What did get attention was a very ill-worded Belgian research report that ''breastfeeding babies do not grow as well'' and conclusions that the WHO growth statistics do not apply to Flemish kids.

Warmly,

Thanks for this, Rachel - it's very revealing.

I was disappointed in the UNICEF Baby Friendly  statement - I don't think media relations are a strong point of theirs, though I love 'em for all sorts of other reasons.

It was good to see our own Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health put forward their excellent spokeperson on this issue  - Doctor Charlotte Wright - who has been quoted in some of the UK press.

And equally happily, massive snows and an attempted coup against our prime minister plus a sex-and-money-scandal in Northern Ireland have dominated the news. I think Prof Carlsen's grandstanding has been a one-day damp squib in the UK.

I've monitored message boards and forums here, too, and it has really not created all that much of a stir.

So if his aim was to become a person on a European or world stage, even for his Warholian 15 minutes, he has not managed to do so.
