Right, Gonneke, no matter their job and certainly not as a way to sort of
'blackmail' people to stay in a job that ought to be done by people with
high ethical standards who are motivated to do it (that is: to help in
difficult situations, not to fight unnecessary wars that cause so much
misery) and not by those who are lured into it (or forced to stay in it)
because they are too poor to find other ways to take care of their family...
or have one to begin with! How 'free' are people to choose if that is the
situation...? This is not freedom, this is disguised pressure. And what is
the impact of this pressure on the motivation? What does the feeling of
being torn apart between child and army do for psychological and physical
health of those subjected to it? Sorry... the whole discussion really gives
me the creeps... :-(
I'd like to reiterate my earlier question: "Imagine there's a war and noone
participates?" (Answer: then there would BE no war!)
Bye,
Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands (and remembering another statement
from highschool times: "I was born after the war and I'd like to keep it
that way.")

Subject: Re: [LACTNET] Health coverage for mothers in military
So the US system forces a woman with child to choose between the child
having a mom or having healthcare? May I find this barbaric and highly
uncivilised?
Well, this remark ofcourse is coming from someone in a country where
healthcare is seen as a human right for all inhabitants of the country, no
matter their job or citizen status.
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC in PP, LC lecturer, puzzled in southern Netherlands
