Some products aren't covered by the Code, yet (if I ran the show, and in my
NOT SO HUMBLE opinion) I would NOT want to see advertised at a breastfeeding
conference or in a breastfeeding journal anyway. Some examples: beer,
condoms, whiskey, tattoo-ink, cat litter, insecticides/herbicides, and
ammunition. These are legally-available products; some are subject to
strict guidelines or laws regarding advertising and distribution; and all
can be used properly or improperly.
Ethical advertising INCLUDES, but is not limited to, products covered by the
Code and the companies that manufacture those products. I wouldn't take
speaking money from Anheuser-Busch even if beer is not covered by the Code!
Please, read up on the International Code. It's part of our job.
