I don't have any answers for you. The mother sounds extremely perceptive and
I would trust her instincts fully. I am surprised that no one has told her
that when she weans him he will get hungry enough to eat! That is nonsense
as we all know, but moms get that advice alot. It seems that baby may have
sensory issues and could be helped by some sort of therapy that gradually
desensitizes the gag reflex and work on certain textures.
I think her main challenge will be to find the person or team that will take
her concerns very seriously, support her continued bf, and her parenting
choices. Someone that specializes in sensory integration perhaps. Possibly
autism spectrum if there really is a problem with communication and/or
speech. If I were this mom, I think I would be spending the next several
weeks on the phone or online trying to find the right doctors/therapists for
my child. He doesn't sound like he is in any imminent danger as to his
health (to the contrary) but i would agree with mom that I would not want to
delay intervention much longer. Unfortunately, sometimes families have to
travel to another state to find the right team, if their finances allow
this.
