Hello to all of you,

Maybe one of you would be able to tell me about this because it is of 
concern, at least I am lost (and not totally the only one):

A specialist in gastroenterology working as a Professor in a hospital, 
recently made a speech in front of many pediatricians, telling them HBS 
positive women with viral DNA as positive "should absolutely not 
breastfeed": "according to very very recent data, breastfeeding for these 
women is formally contra indicated";

this is of concern, to the point of an IBCLC having problems in her practice 
at her hospital in the days following this speech, this IBCLC calling 
another IBCLC (one of my former trainees) the latter contacting me and 
asking me "hey, tell me"....

my "bibles"  tell me one can breastfeed as soon as the mother and baby have 
received treatments; my different courses too;
my latest "bible" is Breastfeeding and Human lactation, 4th edition; it is 
quite recent; I have seen nothing on lactnet;

Thus this professor seemed to advance what he was saying was "recent data"; 
so it may still not be in a book ?

Have you heard of something nowadays contraindicating breastfeeding with 
"HBS positive with positive viral DNA", or is this the key element "positiv 
viral DNA" that implies no breastfeeding, or have I missed something... or 
has this guy missed something?

All you could tell me would be more than interesting; here, a simple 
cold/flu/small diarrhea by the (futur) mom very often entails weanings 
because of the pathogen agents or because of the medication -not "safe"; if 
this contraindication is not evidence-based nore recommanded, we may need 
dozen of years to come back to allow breastfeeding... the friend of my 
former trainee has had problems with the pediatrician of her maternity.... 
it begins....

But on the other hand, if there were news concluding to contraindication, I 
wished to know this.
