The question about colostrum pertains exclusively to the NICU.  If the
baby only starts trophic feeds a week later and mom has a lot of volume
early on our question is if we should use transitional milk after a
certain time frame of the colostrum to give the baby more
fat,lactose,water-soluble vitamins,& calories. Hope that makes more
sense now.

Why would you not give the baby all of the colostrum?  The mother's body
produces it because the baby needs it ... the mother's body doesn't know
the
difference between feeding and expressing.  If the baby was feeding at
breast, no one would have to make a decision about when to switch from
colostrums to transitional and mature milk.  The mother's body makes
that
decision.  There is no excess colostrum. There is only just as much as
the
baby needs. Am I missing something?
