I have permission from my client to post and would appreciate any help with this case.
My client, 28 weeks pregnant has an old burn injury from when she was a child 4years old (boiling water) on her chest extending from just below the neck down to her left breast including the upper area of the nipple. There is no scarring below the areola and nipple. The burn scarring appears keloid and I should think was a full thickness burn at the time.
She desperately wants to breastfeed. On examination, her right breast and nipple are perfect, no burn injury there. The left breast is pulling up towards the sternum slightly. The scarred area is hard to touch and taut. The rest of her breast is soft and lower side of the nipple normal. Basically all the scarring is on the upper, right & lateral aspect of the breast.
At this stage she has not felt any changes in her breast, she has slight fullness in her right breast. She is very positive and wants to try to breastfeed certainly if it is only from one breast.
I would really appreciate some help with this.
