Thanks for the additional info, Emily. 
It will be interesting to hear how the baby's weight is on Friday.  My hunch is that the poor weight gain and the jaundice were due to ineffective feeding because of the tongue tie.  If mother has been able to let baby feed ad lib this past week, I'd expect things to be well on their way to being completely solved when you see them next time.  

Some mothers I've worked with have perceived the baby's newly awakened fascination with breastfeeding as a sign that their supply is inadequate and I've gotten used to telling them to expect a period of 'making up for lost time' at the breast, pointing out that if things had been going well from the start, the baby would have spent a lot more time feeding in the very early days.  I certainly see it more often than not, that when a feeding problem is solved, the baby has a phase of just wanting to breastfeed many many times daily, and I've found it useful to suggest that this is to be expected and certainly doesn't mean there is something the matter.
