It may depend on where you wish to practice - the urban areas seem to have
more opportunties for non-RN IBCLCs. I definitely wish I had become an RN
first. I am now looking at returning to school for a BSN, as I can't find
enough work as "just" an IBCLC. Sad, but true!

Subject: Non-RN IBCLCs??
"How hard is it to get employed as an IBCLC if one is not also an RN? I know
there are other ways to get employed than by hospitals, but the only other
two that are popping out at me are midwifery practices and private
practice."
this question was asked of me by a friend trying to determine if she would
be better off first getting her RN licensure, then the IBCLC, or if going
straight for the IBCLC and seeking employment would be feasible.
Thanking you for your input (& I couldn't search the archives properly on
this topic-kept getting zero results, so may have been using wrong terms)
