Personally, I believe the car seat/baby seat is more responsible for the
flat-heads - how much time do they really sleep versus how much time they're
parked in a seat?

~~ I guess it's regional. Many moms here do not have cars or drive
regularly. Some of these little ones are in buckets during the day anyway, but
babywearing is pretty prevalent even among those moms not breastfeeding. I am
now hearing, depressingly, that sleep training is recommended by a new
pediatric office I was quite excited to hear would be moving into my
neighborhood, (thinking they would be "different" than some of the big mainstream
practices) starting at the age of 8 weeks. Some of these infants will be left
to cry themselves to shutting down ( "sleep") for 12 hours a night starting
at 8 weeks. So we have an unnatural length of "uninterrupted sleep" in an
unnatural position. Argh.

Thanks for the info about mammalian holding on/being held, etc. Fascinating
 as always.

Peace,
