Nina, thank you for pointing out again that she is Canadian (I *believe*
this is true and that she is a citizen now...) and her milk is just as good.
I finally got a chance to pop in and see her and she wasn't sleeping. Baby
was rooting around and she said "but I just fed her" and I said "yes, but
it's normal, see inside they are fed every second, every minute, every hour
of the day...outside, 10 minutes feels like "forever"." She nodded and I
think she understood. She did take the baby and nurse her more. She said
yesterday although she had realized the bottles were causing her an issue,
she was worried about her daughter actually nursing properly "ever", but
Baby finally clicked and got it last night. Or so Mom thinks. We'll see
how she does in the next few days. Her poops have been yellow since the 3rd
day and she poops after 90% of the feeds...*awesome*! She pees ample too,
and as is traditional in Chinese culture the baby's grandmom is already
initiating her with the potty (Elimination Communication). She was much
more alert today than she was even 2 days ago, which is understandable but
so surprising to see. Aside from my own babies this is the first time I
have been close enough to anyone to be around *very frequently* in the
newborn period. When I last saw her early this evening she was standing up
in the livingroom directing her 3yo daughter to do something, holding the
baby latched on with both hands (she is lucky and has smaller cleavage than
I do and doesn't need to support one side while nursing!). I said to her
"just you wait, another week you will be holding her with just one arm and
doing something else with the other...you are learning fast!". :-)

The mom keeps saying she is going to name the baby Souhait. I suggested it
a few months back on a whim, just spitting out words and names willy-nilly,
and she kind of "latched onto it" (pun intended ;-)). Souhait is French,
and means Wish. She was a wished for baby, because Mom wanted one more and
Dad was not so keen, but being in Canada and not China, they are allowed,
and Mom convinced Dad of her wish... ;-) So she felt it was fitting. And
she says it just fine despite it being a french word. Another of our
neighbours and mutual friend is less keen on the word, not because of the
sound but because the spelling will give her difficulty at school
likely...having to say how to pronounce it. But Mom seems determined and I
am surprised it was so well liked, but honoured as well. :-)
