I do not carry a scale.
When I do a consult, I do some very careful swallow assessments with an
infant stethoscope. This has been one of the best tools I have ever used.
Many babies have *appeared *to be nursing 'book-perfect', mom is not
complaining, lips are flanged, baby seems content, but upon oscillation,
there is little or no swallowing going on!
I had a scale for a few visits but found myself wanting to hear that
suck-swallow pattern.
A good infant stethoscope is reasonably priced and fits in your purse!
