I'm see a mom that had a reduction 13 yrs ago, then an enhancement 3 yrs ago.
Her baby is about 60 hours old.
She has visible leaking and can compress obvious milk through both nipples. The breast size has increased through pg and is now bigger since the babe was born.
The IBCLC at the hospital told her that she MUST supplement. She assured her there was no way that the baby would get enough.
I have not done a weight check yet, but we are planning one at the follow up visit when her milk will be "in" more.
After the feed that I witnessed, baby appeared to be gulping at one point and was very happy and content afterward.
What am I missing? Why would this mom eventually need to supplement? Would that be a "CYA" policy at the hospital?
Thanks for your help. I feel confident in my assessment, but maybe I'm forgetting something?
