I've had some serious issues with my local (rural) WIC office, however, this week on a Friday they went up a big step in my eyes.

A seriously engorgaged 3 day-postpartum mom came into my office with a baby that could no longer latch and rock hard breasts. I asked her if she had a pump (no), and asked her if she could get one from WIC - she said that she was told that WIC won't give pumps out in the first two weeks postpartum. I issued her a prescription for one, and had her return to WIC. She was back in my office two hours later with a hospital grade double electric, and we were able to save her milk supply and get her baby latched again. She was given the pump no questions asked with the prescription. (She wasn't shown how to use it, but I had told her to come back to my office so I could help her with it).
