I agree with Linda that;   "Babies who cannot latch and get milk from a 
normal breast are not "confused"
- they are COMPROMISED in their ability to coordinate suck - swallow -
breathe effectively. A baby who cannot get milk at breast may be immature,
injured, drugged, and/or have some other problem that renders him or her
UNABLE to breastfeed effectively."

There are so many obstacles to breastfeeding in a hospital, not least of 
which is the manner in which babies are born.   I feel that the large number 
of uncoordinated, non latching babies we are seeing could be due to the high 
levels of stress hormones circulating in the baby after birth - compounded 
by separation, weighing, bathing etc.  These babies are unable to get "all 
their ducks in a row" until they begin to de-stress and relax.
