I wonder if her valves have been changed recently enough. If she used
the same kit for the PY and Elite, and the kit has a worn part, she
might not get enough pressure to pump effectively. That's always my
first suggestion to moms suddenly having trouble pumping, and it's
usually the issue.

If the pumps are working properly, could she use manual expression to
start the MER and then use the pump? Manual expression is very
effective, it's just a little slower than using a double pump because
you can usually only express one breast at a time.
