Hi Ingrid, It is not something I say to every family I work with, but if I've developed some rapport and they are trying to understand their baby, I haved said this maybe...... 8 times this year. With not a negative response yet.
About the 2.5 hour schedule thing. I have asked parents how they would feel if their boss said they must sit at their desk with no water or snack for 2 or 3 hours. Or how would they feel if their meal tray was picked up after 10 minutes whether they were finished or not. A light bulb of instant understanding usually goes off in their eyes. I also like to say that schedules are more for trains and buses than for babies! ha ha Because so many parents like the idea of a schedule, I don't totally take that away, I say let the baby set their own schedule and the baby becomes more predictable over time. Win/win. ha ha
