One would imagine so - these things do not appear by magic :)

UK celebrity magazines have many ads for formula milk - advertising
infant formula direct to the public is illegal in the UK, but
manufacturers get round this by advertising follow on milk (which has
simular packaging and branding and ads become de facto ads for all
formula as a result).

A couple of years ago a well-known celeb was pictured feeding her
baby branded formula and endorsing it in the interview. The same
brand was advertised with a full page ad next to the final page of
the interview. The resulting fuss led her publicist to put out a
statement saying the celeb was not paid for this endorsement.
However, those who know about these things assumed the formula and
some luxury items or services would be given as gifts, so she would
be paid in some way.

Such blatant product endorsement has not happened since, or not in
quite this way, as far as I know, but it's likely that US and other
celeb magazines will try to find spokeswomen for their brand and to
include this in editorial placement - it's been done before, I think.

I assume product advertising like this does influence people - it's
been done for decades and decades and if it didn't work, they
wouldn't keep doing it. I collect (in a small way) old craft
magazines and in 'Stitchcraft' October 1947, there is, among the
patterns for knitted swimwear and discreet ads for 'female personal
hygiene products', an ad for Ponds Cold Cream. 'It's thanks to Ponds
Cold Cream that my skin is always so clear and soft,' says Jessica
Stoner, who was (it tells me) a 'sculptress' who has exhibited in
London and New York. There is a pic of her looking undeniably lovely
above her quotes.

And those of us of a certain age will always remember that '9 out of
10 film stars use Lux soap'.
