For 12 years, I worked with a corporate lactation company that provided
Medela supplies. Now I work at a hospital that uses Medela products. The
new Freestyle has a BPA bottle system that comes with it, and Medela is now
doing a promotion that includes an additional bottle system as an option.

As an LC, what am I to do? I consistently use different size breastshields,
and Medela is the only company that provides several size options. I also
have to deal with NICU stays that interrupt breastfeeding and preemie baby
situations that require different size nipple shields. I do not wish to
limit the service that I can provide in my profession, and at the same time
the company that provides those options is the same company that is breaking
the WHO code. We have huge numbers of women who go back to work or deal
with NICU stays, and continue to pump for their babies. Without these
product options, this cannot be accomplished. If we look at Ameda, they are
now Evenflo. If we look at Lansinoh, they were purchased by Pigeon. Please
tell me what I am to do in order to be compliant with Code. Telling my moms
to hand express and cup feed is not going to happen.
