Mothers sign consent forms upon being seen. Reports are sent to referring physician's).
We have been playing with NICU card - have seen great results. We are ordering one at a time and designating it for pumps. Yes, the cost is an issue, but since we are buying one at a time hopefully not a big impact. We don't use these in NICU - only on the floor for inpatients. The nurses like them also because it is so automated that even very ill moms can use these. Working on an idea for a "cheap" hands-free device that can be constructed from available materials in the hospital. Any ideas? Mesh panties with the crotch cut was my first attempt, but it's a little weak and too big for smaller gals. Ace bandages are expensive. Most of the gals aren't wearing bras at first, so rubber bands and safety pins aren't a good option! Although that works, when there's something to hook to. Have used that for a mom in a body cast.

Subject: Physician Reports/Medela Premie Card
Requesting information from outpatient lactation programs:
Do you sent a report to Pediatrician & OB-GYN doctors regarding consult on mother and baby seen by LC?
When you send reports,do you require a consent by the mother to fax report to physician?
Also requesting more input on NICU's using Medela Symphony Premie card. Have you converted all pumps in hospital or a limited number of designated pumps? Is cost of program a concern for hospitals considering the new card?
Thanks Julie
