Subject: Re: [LACTNET] Parasitic versus symbiotic relationships
Dear all:
With the downturn in the economy, I've been listening to the radio too much.
One of the
talk shows was making an analogy that what has happened to newspapers with
google
linking into their content for free is like the parasite killing the host.
One could
extrapolate this analogy to any number of situations in our modern life ---
but some
recent situations have come up that are making me contemplate the ethical
quandry of
whether these situations are parasitic or symbiotic.
**Dear Susan,
It is difficult, but personally I would not want to be 'censored' as for
what I was allowed to say or state.
I highly value my independence, which is why I am in pp and not an employee
on a pay role somewhere else.
Working together with other organisations can definitely have an advantage
over always doing everything yourself.
As long as I am not sure, though, what to expect from the organisation, I'd
rather not be associated with it.
Because I can afford not to have a very big income, independence is at the
top of my priority list.
This way, I am responsible for my own way of working, for my own level of
knowledge, for my own failures and... for my own success. ;o)
Warmly,
Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
