Our hospital started using the dot system for our colostrum (having the
mothers number their breastmilk containers), but I was wondering if you
can give me a suggestion on what to do when we have a mother with large
volume of colostrum and infant is receiving trophic feeds. When, in the
feeding continuum (trophic to actual feeding) do we start using mother's
transitional/mature milk and no longer colostrum. When should the
excess colostrum be used to avoid wasting it?
Thanks,
Gina Cunha, RD, CNSD
