Seems like in this case the editing was sabotage.
I don't know Dr. Kramer and cannot speak for his media savvy in general. But
I do know that when I've been interviewed - me, who is happy to talk about
breastfeeding, birth, pregnancy, mothering etc at the drop of a hat, in a
generally professional and passionate way - I've been taken aback by how
difficult it is to speak carefully. I'm not even usually worried about being
edited or taken out of context, I just am worried that what I say will
"read" differently from what I mean.
Once I was on local television with another local breastfeeding advocate. I
ended up answering every question, and when the interviewer and I tried to
engage her in the conversation, she just got this "deer in the headlights"
look on her face. After the (recorded live) interview I apologized to her
for talking so much. Her reply? "OMG - I was so scared I couldn't even
talk!"
I suspect you can be coached for excellence in interviews and such. Morgan,
have you got websites for us on this one?? Your passion is wonderful but
sometimes reads - terrifying!
