It probably has some neural connections! Removing it may or may not
remove those nerves, injuring them may just substitute a constant
burning pain for the annoying MER symptoms she has. Have her speak to a
surgeon who really understands the breast.
In the meantime, I wonder if she would get some relief from briefly
stimulating that nipple when she has an MER? I'm thinking of the effect
that TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) has for pain
sufferers. A quick pinch or poke might give the nerve additional
stimulation that makes it stop responding to the more subtle stimuli...
Just thinking outside the box here, might not work.
